Magnificent in Decay
Both Magnificent in Decay and Time Waits are quipu poems. They were exhibited at the Hotel du Vin in Cannizaro park in Wimbledon in 2024 as part of an exhibition about trees. The park has the largest collection of oak trees in the UK.
A precis poem inspired by Yardley Oak, by William Cowper
Inspired by my Argentinian and Bolivian heritage, I draw on Quechua, a language of the Andean people. Through the Quechua language we learn that all things exist only in their relationships with something else, including people and nature. As a pre-literate language, the philosophy of Quechua is embodied in the language of weaving. The ‘quipu’ or knot work used in these artworks emulates this ancient and nuanced form of communication.
